Dr. Meagan N. Houston is a licensed psychologist, published author and founder of Houston Behavioral Health, PLLC. The mission of Houston Behavioral Health, PLLC is to provide culturally appropriate and holistic mental health services to adults, adolescents, children, and families-Healing mind, body, and spirit. While Dr. Houston provides treatment services for an array of psychological and behavioral disorders. She specializes in providing treatment for those who experience suicidal ideation/behaviors, and/or engage in self-harm behaviors. She also provides specialized services for those seeking couples therapy and provides services to law enforcement personnel. She has experience in high-risk settings where the application of suicide prevention, assessment, and intervention occurs daily.


She has maintained a private practice in Houston, Texas, for over 10 years, working with a wide range of clients and providing consultation, training, and psychological services to local, state, federal, and private agencies. She is also a national speaker for PESI, a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and instruct the general public, public organizations, private industry, students, and professionals to assist them in acquiring, developing, and enhancing their knowledge and skills. In this role, she provides seminars on suicide and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI).


Dr. Houston recently retired from the Houston Police Department, located in Houston. Texas wherein she was employed as a full-time Police Psychologist with the Psychological Services Division. While serving in this role, she provided a plethora of interventions, consultations, assessments, and psychological services to police officers, their family members, and civilian employees.


She has also been employed with the federal prison system where she filled the dual roles of prison psychologist and federal law enforcement officer. While there, she provided a variety of services to both inmates and correctional staff. She conducted training and served as the mental health expert on the hostage negotiation team for several years, working closely with officers and special response teams in crisis management. She has provided psychological, psychoeducational, and chemical dependency programs in private practices and college counseling centers. She has also provided geropsychological services to nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. 


Dr. Houston is a also member of the  American Psychological Association (APA), Texas Psychological Association (TPA), and the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi).

Rachel D. Roberts

Predoctoral Clinician 

Rachel D. Roberts, M.Ed. LPC/LADC is a fourth-year doctoral student in the counseling psychology program at the University of Houston. She holds a master’s degree in professional counseling and has been a licensed therapist since 2018. Rachel has a deep commitment to improving mental health outcomes, particularly among communities of color experiencing emotional dysregulation, trauma, and addiction. 

 

Rachel was born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK. As a first-generation college graduate, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minored in African American studies at the University of Oklahoma. She has worked in clinical practice since 2018 as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC). Rachel’s experiences range from working with ethnically diverse adolescents to middle-aged adults in residential, community mental health, and university college settings. Rachel’s integrative treatment modality incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). 

 

Moreover, her dedication to understanding how to effectively treat emotional dysregulation and trauma and assess for intellectual and developmental disabilities motivated her to seek additional clinical training at the DBT Center of Houston and UTHealth C.L.A.S.S. clinic. Rachel’s research interest lies in exploring the health disparities within the reproductive health of black women as influenced by substance use and intimate partner violence. She enjoys cooking, traveling, and game nights with friends in her free time.

Elijah Murphy

Predoctoral Clinician

Elijah Murphy, M.A., L.P.A. is a fifth-year Clinical Psychology doctoral candidate at the University of Houston and a Licensed Psychological Associate in Texas. He holds two master’s degrees in Psychology and Clinical Psychology from American University and the University of Houston, and brings a deep commitment to culturally informed, justice-oriented mental health care.


Originally from Washington, D.C./Prince George’s County, Maryland, Elijah earned his B.A. in Psychology from American University, where he was also a Division I athlete. His clinical work focuses on anxiety, depression, PTSD, and racial trauma, and he has provided care in settings including VA Medical Centers, Primary Care clinics, and Federal Detention Centers.


Elijah uses an integrative therapeutic approach rooted in CBT, CPT, DBT, and mindfulness, and tailors care to each individual’s needs and cultural context. He is also an active researcher, with over 10 peer-reviewed publications exploring resilience and the mental health effects of racism on communities of color.


Elijah is passionate about using therapy, research, and advocacy to promote healing and equity. In his free time, he enjoys working out and being a proud pet parent.
